Fear No More
Poem by William Shakespeare:

Poem:
Fear no more the heat o’ the sun,
Nor the furious winter’s rages;
Thou thy worldly task hast done,
Home art gone, and ta’en thy wages:
Golden lads and girls all must,
As chimney-sweepers, come to dust.

Fear no more the frown o’ the great;
Thou art past the tyrant’s stroke;
Care no more to clothe and eat;
To thee the reed is as the oak:
The scepter, learning, physic, must
All follow this, and come to dust.

Fear no more the lightning flash,
Nor the all-dreaded thunder stone;
Fear not slander, censure rash;
Thou hast finished joy and moan:
All lovers young, all lovers must
Consign to thee, and come to dust.

No exorciser harm thee!
Nor no witchcraft charm thee!
Ghost unlaid forbear thee!
Nothing ill come near thee!
Quiet consummation have;
And renownèd be thy grave!

Analysis:

                Shakespeare poem "Fear No More is actually a part of his drama symbolize at appears as a song on the death of one of the characters.This poem is based on the concept of immortality of death over power every thing else .This poem is divided  in to three stanza and every one of them gives promise to the inevitability of death.

               In the first stanza the poet says that A died person is free from the fear of extreme heat or the raging winds of strong winter or chilling winter.The people who are died after finishing their deeds on the earth and death is what you receive in return as a part of your wages.Death takes them to heaven .The poet further suggests that every human being is born with a precondition of death.irrespectively of charming boys or beautiful girls,or even poor chimney sweepers.Death is supposed to be the greatest of the levelers since inception.At the end every things turns to dust.

              In the next stanza the poet further orexis that we should not be afraid of any frant as they become helpless when we are died .We should not take care of food and clothes as they are not as important as we project them to be and after death.There is nothing like Superior or inferior feeling for a dead man everything is the same as everybody from the king to the scholar will have to die one day and turn to deist.

              In the last stanza the poet tells us not to be afraid of lightning or cloud-burst and we should not be after afraid of any negative opinions given by anybody,because for a dead man everything seems as their elders to be neutral even the young lovers have to go to the same place as their elders did that is to death and to dust.

             This poem suggested that the ultimate reality of life is death and death is actually freedoms which is justify properly in the song by William Shakespeare.

Play Review

   "Digdarshak The Hindi Play"

         The film screening committee of department of English ,M K Bhavangar University organised screening of  this play .Thanks to all committee member for the show.The central conflict of this play is about theater vs cinema .The protagonist of the play ,the Directer,is in favor of the theater. He dislike talented actors joining film industry and cinema.We have several age old controversies in the field of art and literature.Art for the sake of art vs art for the sake of life.,this is we also show in his play.

                      Theater and cinema debate goes on . there is a "Kunstlerroman" ideas .In this play directed was highly potential to be kunstlerroman where he ends arrogant rejection of the cinema life.Theater is more difficult than cinema .The cinema is more democratic whereas theater is authoritative almost dictarial. The directer is the dictator.In this play myth of Ashwathama also represented in this play.

La Bella Dame Sans Merci

               La Bella Dame Sans Merci (French for "the beautiful lady without Merci ") is a ballad written by the English poet John Keats
.It exists in two versions,with minor differences between them.The original was written by Keats in 1819.he used the title of the 15th century La Bella Dame sans Merci by Alain Chartier,though the plots of the two poems are different.

Poem :

O what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,
       Alone and palely loitering?
The sedge has withered from the lake,
       And no birds sing.

O what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,
       So haggard and so woe-begone
The squirrel’s granary is full,
       And the harvest’s done.

I see a lily on thy brow,
       With anguish moist and fever-dew,
And on thy cheeks a fading rose
       Fast withereth too.

I met a lady in the meads
       Full beautiful—a faery’s child,
Her hair was long, her foot was light,
       And her eyes were wild.

I made a garland for her head,
       And bracelets too, and fragrant zone;
She looked at me as she did love,
       And made sweet moan

I set her on my pacing steed,
       And nothing else saw all day long,
For sidelong would she bend, and sing
       A faery’s song.

She found me roots of relish sweet,
       And honey wild, and manna-dew
And sure in language strange she said—
       ‘I love thee true’.

She took me to her Elfin grot
       And there she wept and sighed full sore,
And there I shut her wild wild eyes
       With kisses four.

And there she lullèd me asleep,
       And there I dreamed—Ah! woe betide!—
The latest dream I ever dreamt
       On the cold hill side.

I saw pale kings and princes too,
       Pale warriors, death-pale were they all;
They cried—‘La Belle Dame sans Merci
       Thee hath in thrall!’

I saw their starved lips in the gloam
       With horrid warning gapèd wide,
And I awoke and found me here,
       On the cold hill’s side.

And this is why I sojourn here,
       Alone and palely loitering,
Though the sedge is withered from the lake,
       And no birds sing.

Summery:

"To the lighthouse" by Virginia Woolf.

"To The Lighthouse" by Virginia Woolf - blog task

This blog is a part of my blog task activity for the novel "To The Light house" by Virginia Woolf in Modernist literature

1)In this novel "To the light house" by Virginia Woolf stream of consciousness is very well used .By using this technique,she explain that how our relationship are so complicated and this technique is used that how we think and how we make simple and formal feeling multifarious. In this novel Virginia Woolf presents psychology of a familiar relationships and internal struggle about everything. This phrase used  William James in his Principle of perceptions,thought,and feeling in the waking mind .

2)Yes I agree that "The novel is a both a critique and tribute to the enduring power of Mrs.Ramsay."
We can say about Mrs Ramsay tribute as everyone misses her after her death,and for females her behavior is not better.Desire to express critique of Mrs Ramsay's essence (as an ideal wife and mother) in the painting.We can compare Mrs.Ramsay with Indian woman who always fulfills the demands of husband and do the work through out the whole day in home and take care about her child.And we can read Mrs. Ramsay in context of idea of ideal Indian woman (The Sanskrit sloka)

3)Many Symbols can be found in the novel "To the light ".Lighthouse is the symbol in the novel and also in this novel both female character Mrs.Ramsay and Lily briscoe are symbolized .And also in this novel woman can't write or paint .Mrs.Ramsay also showed path to Lily Briscoe at the novel also tell this sentence "Closed  the door and open the window".

5)A kunstlerron novel it means "artist's novel " in English is a narrative about an artist's growth to maturity .In the lighthouse Lily's character and the novel itself is a struggle of an artist.In this novel the character of lily makes it 'Kunstlerron' novel.

7)The novel is more difficult than the movie ,both words and screen have its own advantages but words are more powerful than the screen.screening movie is restricted the power of imagination.Novel has poetic charm which movie can't provide to reader and audience. Sickvance of the film is very melodramatic ,and both end are different dialogue,end of the film dialogue is Lily Briscoe :"You are fool" , ""Closed  the door and open the window".But end of the novel there:"Yes , she thought ,laying down her brush in extreme fatigue,I have had my vision".

Identifying modernist metaphor / symbols/Images in short poem.

Identifying modernist metaphor/ symbol/images in short poem.

 This blog is a part of my classroom activity given below:

Let us analyse and identify modernist metaphor / symbol / images in from the given poem:

1) "The Embankment" - T. E. Hulme

Once, in finesse of fiddles found I ecstasy,
In a flash of gold heels on the hard pavement.
Now see I
That warmth’s the very stuff of poesy.
Oh, God, make small
The old star-eaten blanket of the sky,
That I may fold it round me and in comfort lie.

        The fantasia of a fallen gentle man on a cold bitter night.In this poem a 'Fallen gentleman' reflects on his past and how he found pleasure in worldly social activities and beautiful women probably courtesans or probably courtesans or prostitutes.We show in this poem modernist metaphor and image like 'old star eaten blanket' , 'stuff of poesy' , 'flash of Gold hill' ,' fitness of fuddle.

2)"The Darkness"-Joseph Campbell

Darkness.
I stop to watch a star shine in the boghole –
A star no longer, but a silver ribbon of light.
I look at it, and pass on.

        In this poem title it self reflect the image of ' dawn fall ',and unther modernist symbol of ' star' is a symbol of prosperity and brightness means that there was some goodness in civilization but now it's all dark .'Star' is something in positive energy and positive energy but here poet takes it as a star no longer,bu a silver ribbon of light.

3)"Image" -Edward Storer

Forsaken lovers,
Burning to a chaste white moon,
Upon strange pyres of loneliness and drought.

             In this poem title it self reflect the modern metaphor.In this poem the lovers are burning to white moon and they are forsaken and lonely.These are use like a modern metaphor used by poet.

4)"In a station of the metro"- Ezra Pound

The  apparition of these faces in the crowd;
Petals on a wet,black bough

             In this poem poet describe Metro station.Poet used metaphor that "petals on bough" ,petals grown on flower not on bough and black and wit bough used as a symbol in this poem give the poem tone very sad.

5) "The pool" -H.D( Hilda Doolittle)

Are you alive?
I touch you.
You quiver like a sea-fish.
I cover you with my net.
What are you—banded one?

             in this poem pool gives us an image of water and water in pool can't move ,also poet use unther metaphor like people who are lost in the monotonous life like sea fish.There is symbolize rootness of the civilization.

6)"Insouciance' - Richard Aldington

       In and out of the dreary trenches
       Trudging cheerily under the stars
       I make for myself little poems
       Delicate as a flock of doves
       They fly away like white-winged
        Doves.

         In this poem use metaphor like dreary tranches .Trudging cheeritly.Here these two words "trudging" and " cheerity" gives the image of life,also in his poem poet can be fly away like white winged doves,like gives symbol of he want to be free.

7)"Morning at the window" - T.S.Eliot

They are rattling breakfast plates in basement kitchens,
And along the trampled edges of the street
I am aware of the damp souls of housemaids
Sprouting despondently at area gates.

The brown waves of fog toss up to me
Twisted faces from the bottom of the street,
And tear from a passer-by with muddy skirts
An aimless smile that hovers in the air
And vanishes along the level of the roofs.

      This whole poem has use of negative words.the word "Ratting " means vibrating shaking plates and "Damp"means in low spirit from loss of hope of courage.Unther negative symbols use in this poem symbols like'Dumb soul' , Fog , twisted face , muddy skirts, Aimless smile.

8)"the Red Wheelbarrow" - William Carlos Williams

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens.
 This is very short poem but many symbol use as a positive and negative .Symbols are 'Rain water ','Wheel barrow'.Also use color symbol like use in dual way 'Red' and 'White'.

9)"Anecdote of the jar" - Wallace Stevens

I placed a jar in Tennessee,
And round it was, upon a hill.
It made the slovenly wilderness
Surround that hill.

The wilderness rose up to it,
And sprawled around, no longer wild.
The jar was round upon the ground
And tall and of a port in air.

It took dominion everywhere.
The jar was gray and bare.
It did not give of bird or bush,
Like nothing else in Tennessee.

         Anecdote of the jar is an imagist poem in which poet question of the superiority between  art and nature.Modernist metaphor like beautiful "jar" it was a round jar, reminding one of the Grecian urn of Keats .This poem can be seen as a small story of the jar the state of Tennessess.

Derrida deconstruction

Hello,
Here i am sharing some point view about deconstruction and post structuralism

         "Certain readers resented me when they could no longer recognize their territory their institution."

                                                                                                               -Jacques Derrida

               Deconstruction ,as applied in the criticism of literature, designates a theory and practice of reading which question and claims to "subvert" or undermine"the assumption that the system of language provides ground that are adequate to establish the boundaries the coherence or unity and the determinate meaning of literary text.
             Structuralism derives ultimately from linguistic.Post structuralism is much more fundamentalist in insisting upon the consequences of the view that,in effect,reality itself is textual. Post structuralism develops what threaten to become terminal anxieties about the possibility of achieving any knowledge through language.As we saw ,one of structuralism's characteristic views is the notion that language doesn't just reflect or record the world rather it shapes it so that how we see is what we see.
Example for: Daag Achhe Hain
                  This is T.V advertisement ad attempt to promote the values of forgiveness and harmony using "daag achhe hain" proposition.In this ad use idea of the diconstructive in negative wrong impression.That looking foreword to this ad we called daag achhe hain on our self.In this add also showing nowadays changes the attitude and personality in day to day life it influence the people towards bad habits seeing this ad but also that is people show like it is good image.
